Theme: Unmasking the Lies of Satan
Objective: To recognize the tactics Satan uses to deceive and how to counter them with truth.

1. The First Lie – “You will not surely die.”

Text: Genesis 3:1–5

  • Context: Satan (the serpent) tempts Eve to eat the forbidden fruit.
  • Lie: God is withholding something good; sin has no consequence.
  • Truth: Sin leads to death (Romans 6:23).
  • Application: Don’t question God’s motives or word. Recognize that disobedience always brings consequences.

2. The Lie of Power and Glory – “All this I will give you…”

Text: Matthew 4:8–10

  • Context: Satan tempts Jesus in the wilderness, offering all the kingdoms of the world.
  • Lie: Satan has authority to give ultimate power and can reward compromise.
  • Truth: God alone has all authority (Matthew 28:18); worship belongs only to Him.
  • Application: Reject shortcuts to success that require compromising faith or integrity.

3. The Lie of Misapplied Scripture – “He will command His angels…”

Text: Matthew 4:5–7

  • Context: Satan quotes Psalm 91 to tempt Jesus to test God.
  • Lie: Scripture can be twisted to justify wrong actions.
  • Truth: God’s Word must be understood in context and used to glorify Him, not manipulate outcomes.
  • Application: Study the Bible thoroughly; don’t rely on partial truths or proof-texting.

4. The Lie of Accusation – “You’re unworthy.”

Text: Zechariah 3:1–4; Revelation 12:10

  • Context: Satan accuses God’s people before Him.
  • Lie: You are too sinful to be loved, forgiven, or used by God.
  • Truth: In Christ, we are justified, clothed in righteousness (Romans 8:1).
  • Application: When accused, turn to Christ’s finished work. Let God’s voice be louder than shame.

5. The Lie of Self-Sufficiency – “You will be like God.”

Text: Genesis 3:5

  • Context: Satan tempts Eve with autonomy.
  • Lie: You don’t need God; you can define your own truth.
  • Truth: Life and wisdom are found in dependence on God (Proverbs 3:5–6).
  • Application: Daily submit to God’s authority. Don’t buy into the lie of self-deification.

Final Reflection:

John 8:44 – Jesus says Satan is “a liar and the father of lies.” His strategy has always been deception—questioning God’s word, twisting truth, offering empty promises. Our defense is to know the truth (John 8:32), wear the armor of God (Ephesians 6:11–17), and resist him by standing firm in faith (1 Peter 5:8–9).
